Fraud

People who came back under another account, and devices several people used

Most people verify with you once. Some come back: under a second customer account, a new email address, or the same account again and again. When somebody you already hold a verification for tries again, the attempt is stopped as a repeat instead of becoming a second approval. This page gathers those attempts by person, so you can see the whole pattern at once instead of dozens of separate verifications that each say only that they expired.

Everything here is your own data. Nothing on this page comes from any other business.

The overview

Four numbers sit at the top, for the time window you pick (7, 30 or 90 days):

NumberWhat it counts
Repeat attempts stoppedAttempts closed because the person already had a verification with you
People behind themHow many different people those attempts belong to
With two or more accountsPeople whose attempts came from more than one of your customer IDs or email addresses
Devices used by several peopleDevices that two or more different ID numbers were verified from

The chart below shows repeat attempts per day. The dashed line is every repeat attempt; the filled area is the part that came from a different account than the one the person was first verified under. A filled area close to the line means people are opening new accounts, not simply trying the same one again.

Repeat identities

One row per person, with how many accounts they used, how many attempts they made, how many were stopped, how many devices they used, when they last tried, and the status of the verification they kept repeating. A dot beside the last attempt means they tried again in the last 24 hours. Sort by most attempts or most recent.

The person's name shows only if your seat can see applicant details. Everything else shows for any seat that can open this page.

One person, all of their accounts

Open a row to see everything about one repeat identity:

  • What the stopped attempts share with the verification: how many of them carried the same ID number, the same document, the same name and the same device.
  • Every attempt, account by account: a timeline with one line per account and a dot per attempt. Green is the approval, blue is an attempt stopped as a repeat, and an amber ring is an attempt that reached manual review before it was stopped. Times are in UTC, and long quiet stretches are folded so a burst of attempts stays readable.
  • Accounts: each customer ID with its email address, how many attempts it made, and when.
  • The verification they all repeated, with any warnings that were recorded on it.
  • Why these are one person: how many attempts matched on the face, the ID document, the customer ID and the email address. A match on the face means the selfie showed somebody you had already approved, even though the attempt came with a different document or a different customer ID.

Opening this page with a seat that can see applicant details is recorded in Team activity, once for each account whose details it showed.

Shared devices

Devices that two or more different ID numbers passed through in the window, with how many ID numbers, attempts and approvals each saw, and when it was last used. Devices are identified only by the last few characters of an anonymous code.

A shared device is not proof of anything

The busiest shared devices are usually office, branch or agent devices where your own staff help customers verify. They are listed so you can tell those apart from a device that should not be seeing so many different people.

What this page never does

Nothing here approves, rejects or changes anybody. It shows what already happened. The attempts it counts were stopped at the moment they were made, by your re-verification settings; if you turn those off, new repeats stop being stopped and stop appearing here.

Related cases that are still open wait in Fraud review on the manual review page.

Who can open it

Owners, review managers and reviewers can open Fraud by default. Developers and viewers cannot, and an owner can change that for any seat on the Team page. Restricting a seat to certain flows or environments narrows this page the same way it narrows every other.
